MotionNET.com is the technical web portal designed by a team of experienced electronic and mechanical design engineers to help fellow engineers design and develop new products. Our goal is to provide engineers and buyers with the most efficient, direct and practical sources available, including products, manufacturers, distributors, standards and reference information. Along with the rest of the engineering community, each time we designed a product, automated a production process or integrated a system, significant time was spent trying to find the resources needed to do the job. We often used Internet search engines. Results often included potato chips and wood chips mixed with semiconductor chips. We found ourselves wishing there was an online database tailored for design engineers.

We envisioned an online categorized database designed specifically for the electronic and mechanical engineering community. This database would allow you to select the desired type of product and give you the ability to click to and browse the specific product pages within each company's website. We also wanted quick access to frequently used references (such as an ASCII Code Table, trademark search, dictionary for spell checking, etc.).

After an exhaustive search for such an Internet resource, we created MotionNET.com. It provides free access without requiring users to register.

In addition to submitting MotionNET.com to numerous search engines across the Internet, we also registered thousands of product type domain names such as servomotors.com, actuators.net and framegrabbers.com. This allowed searchers to find multiple sources for such products.

Our next step was to gather a team of people to assemble this information. We visited thousands of websites and created a relational database that included:

Company category (distributor, manufacturer, etc.).
Links and categories for each product type.
Location of products page.
List of distributors.
Line card of manufactures.
Contact information, including phone and fax numbers and email addresses.

We then invited the companies in our database to check their listings for accuracy and completeness. Each company is given a password allowing them to submit changes and keep their information up-to-date.

We are continually adding more manufacturers, distributors and practical resources. Our product categories reveal the scope and focus of our database.
